Trailer Analysis Conclusion

Trailer Analysis Conclusion

From finishing my trailer analysis on the genre of horror, I have gained huge amounts of detailed research. The research I have developed my knowledge on:
·         Name
·         Genre
·         Target Audience
·         Narrative/plot
·         Narrative Theory
·         Number of Characters
·         Shots (type & number)
·         Sound
·         Voiceover/Dialogue
·         Transition/editing
·         Pace
·         Codes/conventions
·         USP
·         Mise En Scene

By analysing each trailer I found that for each trailer the first aspect was to start with a safe and secure location/environment. This created a false sense of security, as the trailer went on towards the middle the whole narrative changes dramatically. This would allow the audience to feel more uncomfortable where the trailer would start to pick up pace building more tension for the audience. The shot types would change to a faster pace to gain more enigma and allow the audience to become more a part of the film trailer. Most of the shots at the beginning of the trailer would establishing shots and long shots to set the scenery. Half way through each trailer the shot types would change to closes up to show more emotions and reactions to each situation. As the pace picks up, the villain is usually introduced to the trailer where not much is shown on the individual where their identity is usually hidden to keep them anonymous.

The target audience for each trailer was mostly aimed at the young generation including young adults and teenagers. This is because each age restriction is either 15 or mostly 18+. This would mean more special effects and petrifying scenes are used where young children are not able to watch this. Intertitles are used in most trailers that do not have much dialogue where it can tell the plot of the film. This just adds more effect to the audience understanding the film better or becoming more a part of it, as sometimes rhetorical questions are used to engage the audience more. Other factors are the props used which is usually a weapon that kills the victims, blood etc. This just adds further enigma and increase tension for the audience.

To conclude, all the elements helping a trailer become more effective would be taken into consideration to help my trailer with my group become the best possible in the time frame we have been given. I will also use the ideas used in the trailer and editing side to try and make my trailer with my group to a high quality standard.
