The first flat plan was produced specifically to keep the
front cover busy with many cover lines and extra features, allowing the
audience to have a strong glimpse/preview of what is contained in the magazine.
A common convention was to allow main image to dominate the front cover. I had
to keep the masthead, main image and anchor in its conventional position as the
research I have done before showed this was the most effective.
Secondly, the idea was to keep most of the writing on the
magazine cover to the left side, as from The Rule of Thirds would show that the
audience focus spam would be from left to right. This would make my target
audience read the front cover from left to right and see any major features
inside the magazine first before noticing the main image etc.
This is very similar to the first flat plan being created,
as research showed that the positioning of each element on the front cover was
positioned to a similar way on other front covers. Here, I have made the cover
lines spread out on both sides and the anchor being more dominate. The
information on the magazine itself would be at the bottom right of the
magazine, allowing the rest to become more dominant.
